Music NFT App
Project Summary
Overview

This is a startup music NFT collectible project whose mission is to allow music... The goal is to build a platform that enables collectors, music producers, sound production managers, and artists to create, collect, and trade music assets.

Objective

The objective is to create a cross-platform music marketplace, where assets are minted and distributed over a blockchain network in the form of NFT assets, where the ID is unique and signifies that the collector holds an authentic piece of art. The platform should allow artists to set a fixed price for their albums or they may opt for an auction sale, where they get to decide how many copies of the asset will be in circulation, or how rare the asset will be.

The Scope

In this first design cycle of the project, the scope includes an NFT launchpad which should allow artists to mint and list their NFTs in our marketplace as well as an NFT marketplace where the users will be able to buy and trade their NFTs (secondary sales). There should be an option of contacting the customer care in case any transaction or other problems occur. While creating an NFT, setting up the sale type, and number of copies should be included. There should be multiple digital wallets the user should be able to connect in other to create and/or trade assets, as to ensure user retention in case there is a problem with one of the wallets. There should be a social aspect of the platform so that the users may like and comment on their favorite artists' NFTs.

Out of The Scope

The app is envisioned as to have other features, such as utility tokens, music event ticketing, fractional NFTs, on-chain music production, collaborative NFTs, and multiple layer NFTs. Describe what the design team should not challenge (e.g. hard technical constraints, change of CMS, major design overhauls during a platform migration project, etc.)

Target Audience
Targeted audience includes music artists, production sound engineers, music producers, and music NFT asset collectors. Target audience are users from top tier cities who are tech savvy and believe in Blockchain/NFT space.

Core User Needs

Core needs may differ based on who the end-user is. A music artist needs to explore artists and music by various artists because they are looking to support other artists. A collector needs to explore artists and music by various filters as they are looking to collect invaluable music that may increase in price. A production sound engineer needs to explore music tracks and sound bits as they would like to find tracks, riffs, and melodies that they can use for their songs. A music producer needs an ability to look for sound patterns with high specificity (e.g., a track in C minor, 120 bpm with a female for a certain lyrical feel).

Research Insights

Gained a basic understanding of the problem space. Collected data points necessary for the users who are transacting into the NFT space. Understood the buying/selling process of the different categories in NFTs.

User-Centered Design

While working on this project, we were using the user-centered design (UCD) principles to design the product. User centered design (UCD) is a collection of processes which focus on putting users at the center of product design and development. There are a few fundamental principles of UCD that we applied to the process of product development.

We involved users from day 1. We made sure everyone in the project understood user needs and business requirements. We collected feedback to make user-focus decisions throughout a product’s life cycle. Our process was iterative - we were constantly working on improving user experience.

Sketches

To brainstorm and test the initial design, we created rough digital sketches of the app. The idea was to sketch out a marketplace, which is a catalog of all assets available for sale. It would have to have different categories to help the user easily find what they are looking for. Apart from that, we decided to sketch out a promoted or popular artists section as well as a way to promote newcomers to the platform.

Each user's page would have different tabs, we decided. That way, assets that were created by the user could be differentiated from the assets the user has collected. Finally, social aspect were to be included, so we sketched out following features as well as liking and commenting on the assets.

Aside from marketplace, a big part of the ideation was sketching out a launchpad - the page where the artists can upload their music and "turn" it into an NFT and set it up for sale. This page had to be as simple as possible and we decided it was important to add a thumbnail photo upload aside from the music file upload, a description, and categories, which would help out with the sorting of the asset in the marketplace.
